THEME:- CONVERTED, BUT UNBROKE.
TEXT:- ACTS 3:19.
“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord”.
We are like clay in the hand of our God who is our potter and as clay has no power over the potter so also are we in our potter’s hand who will mould and remold us into a perfect shape suitable for his use. This leads us to the book, of Jeremiah 18:1-6.
To be converted is one thing and to be broken is another thing.
The redemptive experience most Christians have is only the conversion experience alone and not the second aspect of it; which is most crucial in our walk with the Lord.
To be converted means, the process or experience of changing your religion or beliefs. (That’s meaning from advanced learner’s dictionary).
It means to turn from one’s old way of life of sin to a new life in Christ which only ends in most people’s mouth,
“For with mouth man confesses unto salvation and with heart man believes unto righteousness”
The brokenness aspect of our salvation is completed by the holy spirit.
“Likewise the spirit helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the spirit itself maketh intercessions for us with groanings which can not be uttered and he that be searcheth the heart knoweth the mind of the spirit, because he maketh intercessions for the saints according to the will of God”. Romans 8:26-27.
If we study the book of Romans chapter 8. From verse 1, we will see series of events which must take place in the life of one who is converted because 1 Corinthians 5:17 says;
“Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature: old things are passed away, behold all things are become new”.
Brokenness means the act of meekness and total humility and submission to the will of God. Psalms 51:17.
SIGNS OF BROKENNESS.
A broken heart believes that without him, I can do nothing. John 15:5.
A broken heart is flexible to the will of God. Isaiah 64:8
A broken heart is one that is remorseful and willing to acknowledge his sinfulness. Ps 51:3-4
A broken heart is the heart that says no to all forms of Unrighteousness. Romans 8:13.
A broken heart is willing to let go of the past and embrace the glorious future.
A broken heart is sensitive to the waves of the spirit. Romans 8:14.
A broken heart yield to the leading of the spirit. Exodus 23:20-21.
A broken heart does not defile himself with the king’s meat. Daniel 1:8.
A broken heart is willing and ready to be use for master’s purpose.
2 Tim 2:19-22.
A broken heart yawn and pants for God and things of God. Psalms 42:1-2.
A broken heart is willing and ready to share the word and the love of God in season and out of season. II Tim 2 :15
To be unbroken means the direct opposite of brokenness.
It is characterized by the following attributes:-
Self righteousness, Isaiah 64:6.
Self exhalation pride James 4:6.
An unbroken heart though, converted, but does not manifest the fruits of the spirit. Galatians 5:22-23.
He is not willing to let go of the past and unforgiving.
How can I be Broken?
Just as I said earlier, it is the work of the holy spirit.
Here are some of the processes of brokenness:-
Total reliance on the blood of Jesus for the redemptive power, Colossians 1:14.
Submit and surrender your totality to God. Proverb 3:5-6.
Study and meditate on the word of God Joshua 1:8.
Renew your mind on daily basis Psalms. 12:2.
Pray until something happen Luke 18:1-8.
Flee all appearances of evil 1 Thessalonians 5:22.
Flee all youthful lusts 2 Timothy 2:22.
Work on your most holy faith for without faith, it is impossible to please God, Jude 1:20, Hebrew 11:6.
So that we can boldly say like Apostle Paul;
“That I may know him and power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable into his death”.
For the redemptive work of our salvation to be complete, we must abide in Christ and Christ must abide in us, because we are dead to the flesh through his death on the cross when we get born again and are baptized with water and holy spirit and come alive in newness of life through his resurrection so that we can receive the spirit of adoption where by we cry, Abba, father. For the spirit itself bear witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Romans 8:15-16.
Stay Blessed
Shalom!!!
